A few days ago, I posted a photo that I took in 1979 during a trip to Colorado. My snapshot was taken from the scenic overlook above Boulder (on the Denver-Boulder turnpike). I am using that photo as inspiration for my next painting. To transform the snapshot into a painting reference, I cropped it to get the basic composition I wanted, and then opened the image in Painter and used digital pastel to simplify the foreground, covering up some small buildings, cars, etc. with white. I also changed the contour of the road just a bit. Then I posterized the scene to help make the shapes stand out. As a bonus, I also got some nice colors. I hope to start painting tomorrow.
