Here is a detail from my oil bar painting in progress as it looked on August 20th. The painting is a landscape of a scene at Bradley Palmer State Park, based on a photo that I took there (posted here June 14). This closeup shows the touches of brown added to tree trunks and shadows. I also did some more work on this little stand of trees, suggesting some of the branches. To paint this group of trees in the background, I had to work small, and it got me thinking about why it is sometimes a good idea to work on miniatures, something I have been wanting to try anyway.
