I am painting this wooden codfish cutout for the Marblehead Festival of Arts Cod Auction. I have participated for several years, apart from last year when the event was cancelled due to Covid. This year, I decided to paint a coral cod, a real species that really is bright orange with blue spots. Photos of coral cod made me think of the bright color field paintings that I did in the sixties. So here is Coral as she looked on May 9th. I am trying for the flat colors and precise lines of the hard-edge color field style, which is not easy to do on wood. I have been working slowly and using a small brush, and the pace slows down as I approach the edges. To be continued. . . .
