Here is my painting of Vinnie as it looked last Thursday. At this point, although I was still making small corrections to the face, I was really working hard to make sure the body of the cat was right. I am painting this pet portrait from a photo that was sent to me (posted here October 29th). I do not trace, but sometimes I measure. Most of the time I just look hard--while I am painting but also in between painting sessions--comparing the painting with the photo. Sometimes I do that with both photo and painting upside-down. It always helps, though I am not sure why. I think it encourages me to paint what I actually see, rather than what I think I know. To be continued. . .
