I worked on this painting again this morning. My reference is a photo that I took at Long Hill Gardens here in Beverly, MA. (I posted the photo here on Mar. 20.) I have working on the perspective for the grape arbor's structure. Today I began by turning both the painting and my reference photo upside-down, and re-establishing the lines. I think that was helpful. Then I brightened up the green leaves. And finally, I mixed some dark red with the blue I am using, to get the darkest value for the grapes. Then I used it to try to show relative positions in space, and I think it helped.
