This painting, my current project, is inspired by a photo that I took during my trip to Colorado last summer. (My (digitally modified) reference photo is posted here August 18). This is how my painting looked on August 25th. I didn't have much time to paint that day, but I used the time I had to address some basic problems in perspective: the shapes of the snow-capped mountains in the distance, and the shape of the shoreline.
